What is Sun Ray?
Sun Ray is simply one of the best ways to deliver a desktop environment to users. Why you ask?
Sun Ray provides a desktop environment that is:
- Completely silent (no moving parts in any of the client devices)
- Extremely versatile (can display Solaris, Linux and Windows applications with ease)
- Environmentally sound (The Sun Ray 2 client only uses 4 Watts!)
- Easy to manage (Centralizes all the administration onto one or more central servers)
- Widely deployed (used by hundreds of thousands of users worldwide)
- Long lasting (Has anyone every bothered to upgrade the client yet? There really is no need)
Sun Ray Client Devices
The current client devices available from Sun Microsystems consists of
Earlier client devices, now superseded by the Sun Ray 2 family and no longer sold by Sun, were:
- Sun Ray 1g
- drives an external monitor at up to 1920x1200 over DVI or VGA
- Sun Ray 170
- drives its integrated 17-inch LCD panel at up to 1280x1024
- Sun Ray 150
- drives its integrated 15-inch LCD panel at 1024x768
- Sun Ray 100
- drives its integrated 17-inch CRT at up to 1280x1024
- Sun Ray 1
- drives an external monitor at up to 1280x1024 over VGA
